The ShoeAChild Foundation held its highly anticipated annual Back-to-School Program on November 14, 2024, at the University of Lagos, in collaboration with the Faculty of Education. The event took place at the Glass House within the Faculty of Education and hosted 150 students eager to kickstart the new academic year.
The program began with the National Anthem and an opening prayer, setting a formal and uplifting tone for the day. Following this, the Founder of ShoeAChild Foundation, Ms. Oluwatosin Odukoya, delivered a warm welcome address. She expressed her joy in hosting the students and assured them they would find the event both inspiring and rewarding. Ms. Odukoya also announced that each student would receive a pair of shoes, books, and school bags, alongside refreshments and meals provided during the event.
The keynote speech was delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor Bayo Oladipo. He emphasized the importance of pursuing quality education and the value of higher learning. He encouraged the students to consider university education as a means to not only better themselves but also contribute positively to society. Professor Oladipo also provided practical advice on course selection, urging students to align their choices with their interests and talents. However, he stressed that talent alone is not sufficient for success—education remains the cornerstone of personal and professional development.
A panel discussion followed the keynote address, featuring professionals from diverse fields, including law, media, medicine, safety, counseling, and accounting. These experts shared insights into their respective careers and encouraged the students to pursue paths that align with their passions and interests rather than focusing solely on financial rewards. The recurring message was clear: success and fulfillment come from choosing a career that brings happiness and purpose.
The 2024 edition of the Back-to-School Program was a resounding success, leaving the students inspired and better informed about the importance of education and career planning.
